lot-0001, title: procurement of 2 blood irradiation devices with x-ray technology for the transfusion medicine of uk-würzburg, description: a market exploration has been conducted in advance by the user and the specialist department: basically, 2 devices for blood irradiation with x-ray technology are sold on the european market, which differ significantly in their performance data. 1. product capacity per irradiation cycle: 12 erythrocyte concentrates versus 6 erythrocyte concentrates with the alternative device. this achieves a longer operating time of the built-in x-ray tube compared to the alternative device, as 12 products can be irradiated per irradiation cycle. with the alternative device, i need 2 irradiation cycles for the same amount of product. if more products can be irradiated per irradiation cycle, then the wear of the x-ray tube is lower, which means a longer use of the x-ray tube before it needs to be replaced. this greatly increases the cost-effectiveness of the rs3400 device. 2. possibility of irradiating different types of products (ec/pc) together in one irradiation cycle versus no mixing possible with the alternative device. this possibility is very important for patient care, as different blood products are requested at different times (erythrocyte concentrates and platelet concentrates). the possibility of mixing the products helps both with the rapid supply of patients and with the utilization of the device per irradiation cycle (see point 1). 3. cooling: no external water connection needed versus external water connection/cooler needed with the alternative device. currently, there is no water connection available in the designated room. additionally, customers of the alternative device report currently unresolved problems with the water connection, as it does not tolerate pressure fluctuations or fails as soon as pressure fluctuations occur. 4. size and weight: rs3400 significantly more compact and lighter (862 kg, 84 x 91 cm) versus alternative device (1400 kg, 86 x 156 cm), setting up 2 alternative devices in the designated room is not possible. due to these requirements that can only be met by one device, the performance is only available from rad source through aegis medical technologies gmbh.
