The Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos "Liberdade", assured, on Monday, that the Executive, under the leadership of the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces, João Lourenço, is committed to mobilizing the necessary resources to improve the working and quartering conditions of Army personnel.

In the congratulatory message on the occasion of Army Day, which is celebrated today, the minister highlighted the improvement in working conditions in the Northeast, Southeast and Middle Cuanza military regions, recently created within the scope of the FAA Restructuring, Resizing and Re-equipment Process, to configure them to the current political and economic situation in the country.

JoΓ£o Ernesto dos Santos, considers the date "a good reason to reflect on the impact of actions, in accordance with the Constitutional objective".

The Army, the document states, had glorious generations of personnel who served, with responsibility and integrity, the National Security and Defense of Angola.

The message adds that the Army must never lose sight of the permanent training of its forces, within the scope of combative, operational and educational-patriotic training and preparation programs, in which they must seek with a sense of duty and mission to surpass the levels achieved in previous training processes, as only in this way will they be guaranteed to live up to their responsibilities in military defense, maintaining the capacity for overcoming and resilience, firmly preserving the values ??of patriotism and loyalty.

"I take this opportunity to pay tribute to the brave comrades in arms who in different circumstances lost their lives for the greater good of our country, expressing the desire that their memory be the basis on which we will build a more promising future," the message reads.

General Staff highlights glories and achievements

In another message, the Chief of the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Altino JosΓ© dos Santos, assured that the Army will continue to maintain vigilance and combat readiness, reinforcing organization and discipline at all levels of defense of territorial integrity.

The 33 years of existence of that branch of the Armed Forces, recalled the Aviation General, were marked by periods of glory and achievements, where bravery, resilience and determination stood out.

Today, more than ever, the aviation general emphasized, the responsibility of the branch with the largest territorial deployment remains unchanged, at a time when wars and conflicts prevail, the direct and indirect consequences of which affect not only the nations directly involved, but also international peace and security, the message reads.

A story full of symbolism and national reconciliation

The Army, the largest branch of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), was created on 17 December 1991, under the Bicesse agreements, signed in Estoril-Portugal between the Government and UNITA.

It became a symbol of unity and national reconciliation, through the integration of personnel from both sides, with the creation of this instrument aimed at defending the territory on a strictly non-partisan basis.

The Army's primary mission is to defend the national terrestrial space. However, it has other assigned missions, such as participating in missions to support the reconstruction of social infrastructure and the well-being of the population.

Within the framework of the agreements entered into by the State with the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), Southern African Development Community (SADC), Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), the Army provides these organizations with human and material resources for humanitarian aid missions and support for peacekeeping.

One of the pillars of the Army's modernization is the education subsystem, integrated by structures and activities that encompass academic and technical-military components, within the scope of the major areas of scientific knowledge.

The main objective is to provide military personnel with comprehensive, progressive and integrated training, which allows them to maintain, improve and complement their skills, as well as contribute to their professional, cultural, civic and physical development.

In addition to the training, which provides basic preparation for young people newly recruited into the ranks of the Armed Forces, the subsystem also includes four schools offering professional technical courses. The institutions are prepared to train and qualify the Army's human resources with technical and scientific knowledge, aimed at the effective and efficient performance of a military career or active military service, aiming at the defense of the country's land space.

One of the greatest achievements is in higher education, with two institutions that, in addition to Angolan military personnel, have also trained staff for multilateral organizations, such as CPLP and SADC.

The Military Academy and the Higher Military Institute have the mission of training permanent Army officers, enabling them to perform the functions statutorily assigned to them, and providing them with the skills needed to fulfill the Army's specific missions.
