The Geological Institute of Angola IGEO conducts groundwater prospecting and drilling activities in the provinces of Cunene and Hula with a view to contributing to solving the drought problem in southern Angola.According to the department head of this laboratory Eunice Domingos it has the capacity to analyze samples of water rocks minerals and soil using 80 standards within a combination of international ISSO and Chinese standards.We are looking to work towards adapting the processes to form our standards. As we are starting we have to adapt to those who already have a method specifically built to carry out the analyzes explained Eunice Domingos.The Laboratory for Physical Preparation and Sample Treatment prepares thin and polished blades sample spraying and mineral separation. The Analysis Laboratory identifies minerals and rocks performs liquid and solid geochemical analysis and guarantees control and quality.For all work to go smoothly quality control is done an international requirement. The laboratory cannot share it except with the customer he guaranteed.Among the existing equipment in the laboratory we highlight the electronic probe optical microscope ray diffractrometer different spectrometers ion chromatograph temperature difference analyzer thermogravimeter and water and ash content analyzer.Safety at workAt IGEO there is an area of environment and safety which takes care of the workers safety and hygiene processes informs and inspects their compliance in the laboratory and during the handling of the installed equipment.Ana Paula de Sousa responsible for the area ensures that the safety procedures installed prevent accidents in laboratories and that IGEO has individual protection equipment according to each type of work with the use of glasses gloves appropriate shoes and gowns.Smoke and heat detectors are installed on the premises as well as a safety shower used in chemical accident situations. The treatment of solid and liquid waste is carried out before being disposed of to the public collector.
