The Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, assessed the operation of the Calumbo Water Treatment Plant (ETA), located in Icolo e Bengo.
During the visit to the Calumbo WTP, in the municipality of the same name, with a nominal capacity of 51,840 cubic meters per day, João Baptista Borges noted a 25% reduction in water production capacity, which compromises the supply of areas from Zango 1 to 5, including the Centralidade do Zango, and other areas such as Vida Pacífica.
On the occasion, accompanied by the main officials of the Public Water Company (EPAL) and the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE), the head of the Energy and Water portfolio instructed EPAL and the contractor Mitrelli to carry out maintenance and replace the pumps, ensuring the full operation of the station in question.
It also determined the implementation of the actions planned by the Pro Águas project, which include operational improvements such as the optimization of water distribution, better customer management, optimization of commercial processes and technology transfer.
Afterwards, he assessed the progress of the works on the new Calumbo electrical substation, which will be essential to enable a stable supply of energy to the municipal ETA and neighboring areas such as the Zango zones 1 to 5, including the Zango Centrality and other areas such as Vida Pacífica, in Icolo and Bengo.
The infrastructure works are being carried out by the Suez & Mitrelli Consortium and should be completed in two years.
In turn, João Baptista Borges instructed ENDE to speed up the completion of work on this power line so that frequent power cuts that have been a problem due to the rapid population growth in the region are reduced.
On the other hand, the Minister of Energy and Water also confirmed the operation of the Luanda Sudeste and Kilamba stations.
