πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

On 8 August, the MINUSCA Human Rights Division organised the official launch ceremony for the project to protect human rights defenders in the Central African Republic. The aim is to inform political and social actors in the CAR about its content and to promote its ownership by technical implementing partners, as well as its direct and indirect beneficiaries.

This launch took place in the presence of human rights defenders in the Central African Republic, some of whom came from other cities in the country. The discussions allowed everyone to better understand this project, which aims to ensure the protection of human rights defenders working in the field.

Olsène Ouesse Kpamo, President of the National Commission on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, is committed to working to promote the protection of human rights for a rule of law. "Respect for human rights is essential for achieving the rule of law, promoting democratic principles, consolidating peace, fighting impunity and combating harmful cultural constraints, all of which are ideals so dear to our country. The Commission is thus committed, through my voice, to playing the central role of promoting and protecting human rights devolved to any national institution," he said.

For Arnaud Djoubaye Abazène, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, who launched this project, "it is a document developed in consultation with all partners, and we said to ourselves that from now on, any action in the framework of human rights must integrate this human rights policy document. So, this allows us, for five years, to achieve the objectives. I would like to express the government's gratitude to MINUSCA, which was involved in the development of the human rights assistance policy and also in the organization of this ceremony."

In her remarks for the occasion, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the CAR, Joanne Adamson, reassured the audience of MINUSCA's support for the promotion and protection of human rights: "It is up to us to work to find ways and means so that, within the framework of the Paris Principles, the National Commission for Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (CNDHLF) can fully play its mission of protecting and promoting human rights in complete independence. I cannot end my remarks without renewing the availability of the United Nations System and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to continue to support you on this path of peacebuilding through the promotion and protection of human rights," she declared.

The Human Rights Division of MINUSCA, representing the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the country, is in favour of strengthening the protection actions of human rights organisations in the Central African Republic and has initiated a project to protect human rights defenders, which is funded by the Delegation of the European Union.
