o Former Minister of Energy and Mines, Romulo Mucho pointed out that the production of critical minerals in our country is presented as a real opportunityThe former Minister of Energy and Mines, Romulo Mucho, maintained that the production of critical minerals in our country is presented as a real opportunity and is not only in extracting resources, but in developing capacities to transform them, add value, promote innovation and strengthen the regional mining industry, as he stated during his participation in the I Uranium and Lithium Forum, which is held in our capital.
In his presentation Are we advancing in the value chain or are we only left as mineral producers?, Mucho indicated that Latin America has some of the worlds largest reserves of copper, lithium and other strategic minerals for the energy transition and global technological transformation.
Will we continue to export resources or will we build the necessary capabilities to participate in the technological economy of the future? he asked. And he noted that although the extraction of metals brings with it important contributions to the economy of our countries, advancing in the value chain would bring greater economy and knowledge, he pointed out.
Along these lines, he added that competition for critical minerals is driving a profound transformation in global supply chains.
For Latin America, being one of the regions with the greatest geological potential on the planet, this scenario represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen its participation in global value chains, he stressed.
Before concluding his participation, he left a reflection for the participants: Critical minerals will not only drive the technologies of tomorrow. They will also define the global competitiveness of the coming decades, he concluded.
