πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

February 26, 2026, Chisinau - The current situation on the grain market was analyzed today during the meeting of the Economic Council, held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. Council members examined the dynamics of imported volumes, the effects on domestic producers and the need to strengthen monitoring and reporting mechanisms, in order to maintain a functional balance of the internal market.
Since the beginning of the current year, the following import volumes for the main cereal and oilseed crops have been registered in the country: 0.06 tons of wheat from Germany, 22 tons of corn from Hungary and 66.65 tons of sunflowers from Ukraine.
Analyzes on regional developments were also presented during the meeting. The grain market in the Black Sea basin remains, in 2026, one of the main factors of regional and global price formation. In recent months, several trends have emerged:
Stabilization of exports from the region
Export flows from the Black Sea riparian states remain functional, especially through Ukrainian and Russian ports. Logistics risks have reduced compared to previous years, which is contributing to the moderation of regional wheat and corn prices.
Relatively comfortable level of supply
International estimates indicate sufficient global supply of major grains. In the short term, no significant price increases are anticipated, the market being characterized by moderate volatility.
High sensitivity to climatic factors
Despite the logistical stabilization, the market remains vulnerable to the agro-climatic conditions in the region. Episodes of drought, excess moisture or late frosts can quickly influence production expectations and price dynamics.
On the agenda of the discussions were also the recent obligations regarding the completion of the Field History Book, the legal restrictions applicable to the acquisition of agricultural land by foreigners, as well as the rules for the use of pastures, hayfields and land intended for mowing.
In the context of climate change, the subject of strengthening the resilience of the agricultural sector was also addressed. The adaptation of agricultural technologies, the efficient management of water resources and the implementation of sustainable practices to reduce climate risks were discussed. We remind you that, in the period autumn 2025 - winter 2026, the Republic of Moldova recorded precipitation above the multiannual average, in some places accumulating 250-300 mm, a situation that generated operational constraints in the plant sector.
In conclusion, the participants were encouraged to submit proposals for the consolidation of the Strategic Program of the Agricultural Policy for the period 2026-2030, a document in the process of finalization.
