📋 Tender Overview
Ministry of Climate will allocate 2.25 million euros to Estonian Railways to make the Lehtse and Jäneda railway platforms more passenger-friendly and safer. The reconstruction works will be financed from the proceeds of greenhouse gas emissions trading.
"The reconstruction of the platforms is part of the project to increase the speeds of passenger trains. In order for trains to travel towards Tartu and Narva at speeds of up to 160 km/h, it is important that the platforms on the sections are safe. Therefore, we are contributing to the modernization of stops and making crossing the railway safer," explained Sander Salmu, Undersecretary for Mobility at the Ministry of Climate. According to the vice-chancellor, new waiting rooms will also come to the stops, which will protect passengers from rain and wind.
In the course of the works, both passenger platforms of the Lehtse stop will be reconstructed and a railway crossing of a different level will be built. Also, one platform for the Jäneda stopping place will be adapted to suit higher speeds. For example, the safety areas of the platforms to be reconstructed will be expanded to 1.5 metres instead of the current half-metre.
More weatherproof waiting pavilions with walls will also be built on the new platforms. "The new platforms of Lehtse and Jäneda will come with a more weatherproof waiting room, which will allow shelter from wind and rain. A similar solution can currently be seen, for example, in Nelijärve, Kivimäe and Hiiu," commented Imre Reipõld, head of the construction service of Estonian Railway.
Estonian The railway will start designing the reconstruction of the Lehtse and Jäneda railway platforms this year, construction work will begin in 2025 and should be completed by the end of the same year. More detailed conditions for the use of the allocated funds will be established by the financing agreement to be concluded between the Ministry of Climate and AS Estonian Raudtee.
