Urgent need to speed up the progress of power grid projects According to assessments at the conference, the Northern power system is under great pressure due to high load growth. During recent hot days, peak capacity in the North reached nearly 30,000 MW, of which EVNNPCs peak capacity reached 21,142 MW; Electricity consumption on peak days exceeds 630 million kWh/day, with EVNNPC alone reaching 447 million kWh/day. The risk of local overload continues to appear in load concentration areas such as Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Phu Tho... In the period 2027-2030, Northern electricity demand is forecast to continue to grow by about 9-10%/year, posing a need to accelerate investment progress, synchronous completion of transmission and distribution grids. Notably, Bac Ninh is under great pressure on power supply. By June 2026, the maximum capacity of this locality will reach 3,230 MW, an increase of about 22.5% over the same period and 12.6% compared to 2025. The ratio of maximum capacity to total installed capacity of 220 kV transformers reaches 100%, making power supply backup almost non-existent. According to the warning of the National Electricity System and Market Operation Company Limited (NSMO), if key projects do not meet the schedule, the risk of having to regulate load is very high. Faced with that requirement, EVNNPT and EVNNPC have reviewed the progress of construction investment projects, agreed on many important progress milestones to ensure power supply, source release and synchronization with distribution grid projects. In Bac Ninh, EVNNPT plans to complete the transformer station. (TBA) 500 kV Bac Ninh in the second quarter of 2027; Yen Dung 220kV substation and Bac Ninh 5 220kV substation are expected to be completed on April 30, 2027. These are projects that play an important role in enhancing power supply capacity for areas with high load growth rates. In other localities, the two sides agreed on the progress of a number of key projects such as An Lao 220 kV substation (Hai Phong), Sam Son 220 kV substation (Thanh Hoa) in the fourth quarter of 2026; 220kV Hai Hau substation (Ninh Binh) and connection line in the third quarter of 2026; 220kV Dien Bien substation in the fourth quarter of 2026 to synchronize with the 220kV Son La-Dien Bien line. Some other projects such as Dong Mo 220 kV substation, Muong La, Ninh Binh 2 or Tam Diep, Tan Viet... also have specific progress determined. Along with new construction projects, the two Corporations agreed to accelerate additional installation and increase transformer capacity at currently operating 220 kV substations to prevent overload such as: Installing 3 substations in Hung Dong, Nghi Son Economic Zone, Ba Thien, Bac Ninh 2, Bac Ninh 3 to ensure summer power supply 2027. For projects that need planning adjustments, EVNNPT and EVNNPC continue to coordinate with localities and relevant agencies to soon complete procedures. RELATED NEWSEVNNPT simultaneously deploys 2 projects to increase power transmission capacity in Vinh Long provinceEVNNPT and EVNNPC coordinate to accelerate power supply projects for Bac Ninh provinceEVNNPT and ADB appraise ODA funding for the 500kV Binh Dinh line project - Krong Buk Synchronize the transmission-distribution grid, drastically put projects into operation. At the conference, Mr. Hoang Xuan Khoi, Acting General Director of EVNNPT emphasized the need for synchronous coordination between transmission and distribution grids, especially in areas with high load growth rates. EVNNPT leaders requested the specialized departments, project management boards and units under the two Corporations to closely follow the agreed progress milestones, focusing resources on projects. The urgent process was agreed upon by the 2 Corporations. At the same time, it is required to strengthen coordination right from investment preparation, procedures, planning to construction and connection, to avoid the situation where the project is completed but cannot be exploited because related items are not synchronized. Difficulties beyond authority need to be promptly reported to EVN and relevant agencies for resolution, without affecting the overall progress. General Director of EVNNPC Nguyen Duc Thien said that the load in the North continues to increase, while backup in many areas is increasingly narrowing, requiring close coordination between transmission and distribution. EVNNPC will continue to review areas at risk of overload and propose improvement and upgrading planscapacity, new construction investment and coordination in determining priorities. The two sides agreed to increase information exchange on project progress, load needs and operating methods; Coordinate with local authorities, dispatching agencies and related units to promptly remove difficulties and put the project into operation as soon as possi
