π Tender Overview
There have been public reports of GPS interference with air traffic. The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom said in its press release that it is still safe to fly to and from Finland. The Agency is responsible for aviation and aviation safety, and its tasks include monitoring GPS interference.
Traficom is part of the administrative branch of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and the Ministry steers its work.
Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen announced on Friday 3.5.2024 that GPS interference comes from Russia.
"We take GPS interference seriously and monitor it closely. We will work closely with the rest of the central government to ensure safety," says Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne.
GPS interference is not a new phenomenon and is typically observed in conflict zones. During the current year, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom has received an increasing number of reports of GPS disturbances.
"It is important that the changed safety situation is also taken into account in air traffic and its planning. This is what we have done and we will do our part to ensure national security in the field of transport and communications," Minister Ranne continues.
