Download Photo: NDTV Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the policy is expected to take effect from July 1, and emphasized that this is an important step towards the goal of making Delhi a pollution-free city by March 31, 2030. According to the Delhi government, by 2027, 95% of new vehicles registered in the capital will be electric vehicles. The new policy focuses on the transportation sector, and provides a roadmap for gradually converting from fossil fuel vehicles to electric vehicles. To encourage people to switch to electric vehicles, the Delhi government will support 30,000 rupees for buyers of electric motorbikes and 50,000 rupees for buyers of electric three-wheeled vehicles in the first year of implementing the policy. According to the policy, the level of support will gradually decrease over 3 years. Electric motorbike buyers will be given a subsidy of 30,000 rupees in the first year, 20,000 rupees in the second year and 10,000 rupees in the third year. For electric three-wheelers, the support levels are 50,000 rupees, 40,000 rupees and 30,000 rupees respectively for the first 3 years of deployment. Buyers of the N1 light-duty electric truck can receive a subsidy of up to 100,000 rupees. Owners of cars meeting BS-IV or lower emission standards when sending their old vehicles for destruction and converting to electric vehicles will receive a subsidy of 100,000 rupees. This is a measure to accelerate the removal of old vehicles with high emission levels, which is one of the main causes of air pollution in the capital. A notable point is that from January 1, 2027, Delhi will only register new electric tuk-tuks (passenger three-wheeled vehicles). New registration of motorbikes running on gasoline and compressed natural gas (CNG) will be eliminated according to the roadmap; From April 1, 2028, the city will only register new electric motorbikes. The policy also exempts 100% of road tax and registration fees for electric cars with a showroom price of not more than 3 million rupees when registered in Delhi. In addition to financial incentive policies, the Delhi government will expand the network of charging stations, develop old vehicle recovery and destruction facilities, and deploy many other measures to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles throughout the city. The Delhi government will build a specialized online portal for people and businesses to register to enjoy preferential policies related to electric vehicles.
