π Tender Overview
The Center for Economics and Finance of the IMF and the Middle East (CEF), which is funded by the Government of Kuwait, began its activities in 2011. It organizes and conducts courses for officials from member countries of the Arab League in its offices in Kuwait. These courses are taught in collaboration with the IMF Institute, as well as the Departments of Statistics, Studies, Finance, Public Finance, Legal and Monetary and Capital Markets, and other organizations, such as the World Bank, the Organization World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Its main purpose is to strengthen regional capacities in terms of economic analysis and diagnosis, and formulation and implementation of effective economic and financial policies. The IMF is the main provider of training at the CEF in the field of macroeconomic and financial management. Training outside the IMF's core expertise is provided by other agencies. In line with its goal of collaborating closely with other institutions in the region, each year the CEF organizes several joint training courses with the Arab Monetary Fund in the United Arab Emirates and other Arab countries, and with Al-Maghrib Bank in Rabat, Morocco. Courses are taught in Arabic or English (usually with Arabic interpretation). The CEF also organizes conferences, symposiums and seminars to foster general debate around the pressing economic policy challenges facing the Arab world.
Selection process
Participation in the courses is mainly by registration. In the case of courses open only by invitation, government entities will propose a list of applicants once they have received the invitation letter from the Director of the CEF.
Self-financing policy
Candidates from international entities and advanced country regions applying to IMF training events, if admitted, will be considered self-funded candidates. Local IMF Resident Representative Office employees who have been selected to participate in courses at regional centers or programs will also do so as self-financed candidates. However, they will be able to participate in training courses at headquarters as regular participants. Self-funded candidates will have access to the same content and activities, but all related expenses (accommodation, travel and per diem) will be borne by the sponsoring institution.
