Within the framework of the Accountability, the Minister of Transportation and Public Works, Lucía Etcheverry, together with her team, presented to the Budget Commission integrated with the Treasury of Deputies the status of execution of the main infrastructure, transportation and logistics policies developed by the portfolio, and reaffirmed the government's commitment to strategic works.
During an appearance, the leader took stock of the budget execution and the ministry's investments. He pointed out that the MTOP is carrying out an investment of close to 700 million dollars, of which more than 600 million correspond to road works distributed throughout the national territory.
Likewise, he highlighted that the portfolio planning prioritizes an infrastructure network with national scope, aimed at improving connectivity, reducing logistics costs and promoting economic development and employment in the different departments.
"We opted for criteria of economic efficiency, reduction of transportation costs, generation of local economy and employment in the departments. We do not have a mega-project; we have a network of works distributed throughout the country," he said.
Etcheverry and the MTOP team presented part of the new technological tools incorporated by the Roads, Topography and Transportation departments.
On this occasion, drones from the National Directorate of Topography were presented; vehicles of the National Highway Administration equipped with technology that allows for the continuous evaluation of the condition and visibility of the lines and signs painted on the route; and new inspection mobiles from the National Directorate of Transportation (DNT) equipped with cutting-edge technology, which includes mobile cameras with OCR readers for capturing license plates at high speed, infrared cameras for night operations and high-resolution 360° external cameras, among other features.
“The policy has to be based on evidence and the works have to be based on the incorporation of technology to evaluate their quality”
“We say what we invest in, but we also wanted to show some of the technology,” the leader stressed.
