π Tender Overview
From 13 November to 3 December, ProRail will once again be working on the track around Schiphol Airport. This is necessary to prepare the station for the future. As a result, a number of tracks will be unavailable and the timetable to, from and via Schiphol will be adjusted. We advise travellers to check the travel planner before departure for the most up-to-date travel advice.
Travel advice
An adjusted timetable applies for the entire period. There are a few times when there are no trains running and passengers should expect longer travel times:
On Monday 13 November between 1:30 AM and 5:30 AM, there will be no trains but express buses between Leiden Central Station and Schiphol Airport and between Amsterdam Central Station and Schiphol Airport.
On Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 November, there will be no IC Direct trains between Rotterdam Centraal and Amsterdam Centraal
On Sunday 3 December, there will be no trains but buses between Leiden Central Station and Schiphol Airport.
We advise travellers to check the travel planner for the most up-to-date travel advice throughout the period before departure.
Work ProRail
ProRail is replacing the entire track in the Schiphol Tunnel and has now arrived at the platforms. They also replace parts of the overhead lines and hang a so-called 'power rail'. This allows the track to be raised a little so that a level entrance is created between the train and the platform. This will make the train more accessible for people who have difficulty walking. ProRail expects that the removal of the tracks at the level of the platform will cause more inconvenience than previous work. But they will do the maximum to limit noise pollution. For example, soundproof cloths are hung and they use specially selected machines that produce less noise. This work will take approximately four days. For more information about the works, see 21 days of adapted train traffic at Schiphol station | ProRail
Why this work?
Schiphol Airport station is a busy station with many trains and train passengers. That is why the railway around Schiphol must be well maintained. This is what ProRail is doing with the Major Maintenance Schiphol project so that the railway and the tunnels can last for another forty years. The Multimodal Hub Schiphol project will create more space on the platforms. For example, by removing ramps and replacing them with fixed stairs. These projects run parallel so that the inconvenience to travellers is as short as possible. The replacement of the ramps and escalators will be completed next spring. The other work will continue until 2028.
