In the area of Polul in Celje, work is intensively underway on the construction of a new bridge over the Savinja, which represents an important measure to improve the hydraulic flow of the high waters of the Savinja river and at the same time brings a more modern and safer traffic arrangement in the area.The new bridge at Polule enables a better flow of the high waters of the Savinja.
The project, whose investor is the Water Directorate of the Republic of Slovenia, is implemented within the framework of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, and its value is 17 million euros including VAT. Construction began at the beginning of 2025, and the work is already in the final phase.
With the new bridge at Polule, we are not only getting a more modern transport connection, but we are implementing an important measure that will improve the flow of high waters of the Savinja and contribute to reducing the risk of flooding in the area. Such projects require the good cooperation of all involved and professional execution, therefore at the Directorate of the Republic of Slovenia for Water, we pay special attention to the high-quality execution of works and respect for the set deadlines, emphasizes the acting director of the Directorate of the Republic of Slovenia for Water, Roman Kramer.

The new bridge will be 110 meters long and will be built without support pillars in the river bed, which will allow a better flow of the high waters of the Savinja. It will be arranged with two driving lanes and a separate area for the safe movement of pedestrians and cyclists.
As part of the project, the old, hydraulically inadequate bridge has already been removed, and the final works are currently being carried out on the new, replacement bridge, the implementation of flooding under the bridge in a span of about 20 meters on both sides, and the expansion of the Savinja river bed in a length of about 500 meters.
On the right bank, the outlet part of Polulski Potok has already been arranged, the existing wall has been raised to protect against high water, and deepening of part of the bank is underway. On the left bank, the embankment is being improved by removing the access ramp of the old bridge and moving the local road towards the railway line, moving away from the watercourse.
At the same time, works are also being carried out on the right bank of the Savinja, the investors of which are the Infrastructure Directorate of the Republic of Slovenia and the Municipality of Celje. As part of these works, the reconstruction of a part of the national road and the construction of a roundabout to which the new bridge will be connected are underway.
With the implementation of all the planned arrangements, the Polul area will gain a more modern transport connection, improved conditions for the flow of high Savinja waters, and a significant contribution to reducing the areas flood risk.
