The improvement of part of the park became possible thanks to the civil initiative Ecotrail, which this spring won a competition annually organized by the Grodno Regional Association of Local Councils of Deputies, and received funding for implementation.
The initiators of the creation of the ecological trail were caring Grodno residents who live and work in this part of the city: Georgy Kurbat and Vitaly Gumenny.The advisory role is performed by employees of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, in particular Vitaly Kornelyuk.The team of like-minded people is supported by the Grodno City Council of Deputies.
The landscaping was undertaken by the specialists of Grodnozelenstroy.Work began at the end of summer.The total length of the eco-trail is about 3 kilometers.It is divided into two sections: the area near the gymnasium No. 1 named after academician E.F. Karsky, where a 19th-century garden and park complex is located, and the second part - directly in the forest zone of Rumlevsky Park.Thus, the new eco-trail will actually run through the entire forest park.
The ecological trail is called Natural and historical heritage of the local natural monument of the Rumlevo forest park and includes 16 information boards, says Vitaly Gumenny, a member of the initiative group, a geography teacher at gymnasium No. 1 named after Academician E. F. Karsky.- We will have 8 shields in the park part of the trail, another 1 shield in the transition zone, and 7 shields in the forest part.By the way, 10 benches have already been installed there.
There are 22 signs along the eco-trail route.In addition to educational stands, two gazebos are planned.One of them will become part of an open-air ecological classroom.An educational stand will be placed here with rules of behavior in the park, trees will be marked and bird feeders will be installed on them.
The second gazebo will be placed in the forest area, which is reserved for a thematic area dedicated to military history.A board will be installed here with information about the military units that were based in the forest park.
Another information board is dedicated to a unique object in Grodno, located on the territory of the park - the Rumlovka geological section.This point is included on world maps and is of particular interest to specialists.In the same part there will be an educational stand dedicated to the peculiarities of the local animal and plant world.
- In general, our information boards are varied in subject matter.For example, in the park part they are dedicated to the chronicle of the Rumlevo forest park, its geography, the uniqueness of the relief and climate.We have also prepared information about prominent personalities associated with the forest park.These are teachers, scientists, and owners.A separate panel is dedicated to the landscape gardening complex of the 19th century, the layout of which we maintain, adds Vitaly Gumenny.
According to the plan, the improvement of the eco-trail needs to be completed by the end of the year, but judging by the pace of work, Grodno residents will be able to walk along the new route in early November.
