๐ Tender Overview
From September 16 to October 4, the third edition of the international course Seismic Engineering and Planning for Disaster Risk Reduction will be held in Lima. It is sponsored by the Government of Japan through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with the support of the Peruvian International Cooperation Agency (APCI).
The course is held at the Peruvian-Japanese Center for Seismic Research and Disaster Mitigation (CISMID) of UNI, and is aimed at reducing seismic vulnerability through structural reinforcement of essential and common buildings with low-cost techniques.
A total of 19 professionals are participating in this training, 15 of them from 8 countries (Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and Panama); and 4 Peruvian institutions: the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI), the National Center for the Estimation, Prevention and Reduction of Disaster Risk (Cenepred), the National Training Service for the Construction Industry (SENCICO), and the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima.
The activity is carried out under the Triangular Cooperation scheme, in which Japan makes the technical-financial contribution and Peru is the country offering the technical capabilities of CISMID-UNI to other countries.
At the opening ceremony of this course, the executive director of APCI (e), Min. Noela Pantoja Crespo, expressed that the triangular cooperation alternative strengthens the promoting role that this Agency has regarding the negotiation processes with potential traditional and emerging countries to promote triangular cooperation projects.
She also highlighted that the experience that Peru has achieved in the area of disaster risk management is thanks to the valuable support of Japanese cooperation, through its experts and engineers and the contribution of technological equipment.
Also participating in the opening ceremony of the course were the JICA resident representative, Takashi Nishimura; the second secretary of the Embassy of Japan, Toru Koganezawa; the rector of UNI, Alfonso Lopez Chau Nava; the director of CISMID, Luis Fernando Lazares La Rosa; and the dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at UNI, Wilfredo Gutierrez Lazares.
