π Tender Overview
Are we prepared to face an earthquake Dr. Hernando Tavera executive president of the Geophysical Institute of Peru spoke about the seismic activity of the Peruvian territory and how we must be informed and prepared about these events of nature. In recent years we have witnessed informal urban growth in Lima. In this context it is crucial to recognize that we live on a constantly evolving planet and that earthquakes are inevitable natural phenomena. However we can take steps to mitigate its impact on our lives and communities. Although much remains to be done to raise awareness about the culture of prevention it is encouraging to see a growing interest from neighbors and leaders to learn more about geophysics and the phenomena that occur in the interior of our planet said Dr. Tavera. In this context the Ministry of Environment Minam through the IGP participated in a training seminar held on Monday May 15 in the Municipality of Chorrillos. The event was attended by brigade members from various Disaster Risk Management GDR institutions of Chorrillos and residents of the district. Also during the event were present Eng. Oscar Fernndez deputy manager of Civil Defense of Chorrillos and Oscar Moreno Manager of Citizen Security. Our country has a high seismic activity therefore we must be prepared to face earthquakes of medium and large magnitude. Although we cannot predict these events it is essential to be informed and trained about them to create a culture of prevention Tavera said. In this way the IGP continues with its commitment to carry out Science to protect us Science to move forward in order to generate a culture of prevention against seismic events.
