π Tender Overview
The Minsa, through Digemid, makes efforts to improve regulatory capacities and promote international standards of quality, safety and efficacy. The Ministry of Health, through the General Directorate of Medicines, Supplies and Drugs (Digemid), has been incorporated as a new member of the International Pharmaceutical Regulatory Program (IPRP), at the assembly held in Montreal, Canada, last November.
This incorporation means an important international recognition for Digemid, since it will join the 31 drug regulatory authorities that are part of the program, including those from countries with high health surveillance such as the United States of America, Japan, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Korea, as well as the drug regulatory body in the European Union and agencies in the region such as those in Brazil and Argentina.
During the IPRP Committee meeting, Digemid presented the Institutions harmonization initiatives, as support for the membership application submitted at the beginning of this year, as well as the lines of action and regulatory challenges, according to its Institutional Strategic Plan for 2024.
Joining the IPRP will allow Digemid to actively participate in the working groups on the regulation of pharmaceutical products and new health technologies, consolidating its role as an institution committed to strengthening public health in Peru. This achievement reflects Digemids sustained efforts to improve its regulatory capabilities and promote international standards of quality, safety and efficacy.
The IPRP was created in January 2018 with the aim of promoting the convergence of regulatory approaches in medicines for human use. This global program promotes the exchange of knowledge, the adoption of best regulatory practices and regulatory convergence, contributing to a more cohesive regulatory environment. In addition, it offers a space for member countries to share experiences and make visible specific challenges, such as those faced by Peru in its health context.
The national pharmaceutical industry will also be strengthened with this incorporation, since it will have greater regulatory clarity, which will result in a more dynamic process and the ability to compete internationally on equal terms, because regulatory convergence will allow it to align with international standards, with a consequent improvement in Perus competitiveness in the global market.
With this initiative, Digemid reaffirms its commitment to improve public health and the safety, efficacy and quality of pharmaceutical products, promoting international cooperation as a key tool to achieve more efficient and effective regulation at the service of the population.
