π Tender Overview
Seed capital of S/ 60 thousand, granted by ProInnovate, allowed Fussion Peru to optimize its production process and prevent thousands of plastic waste from contaminating beaches and seas.Fashion and sustainability go hand in hand. This is demonstrated by Fussion Peru, a Peruvian startup that, with the technical and financial support of the ProInnovate program of the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE), has transformed more than 49 thousand plastic bags recovered before they reach the oceans into unique sustainable fashion accessories, under the principles of the circular economy.
To strengthen this initiative, Fussion Peru accessed non-refundable seed capital of S/ 60 thousand, granted through ProInnovates Startup Peru 9G contest. This financing allowed it to optimize its production process, implement a production workshop, acquire thermal equipment to manufacture plastic leather and expand its growth opportunities.
Within the framework of International Plastic Bag Free Day, which is commemorated every July 3, this experience demonstrates how innovation can convert waste into value-added products, contributing to reducing pollution from single-use plastics and promoting a more sustainable production model.
The capital from ProInnovate helped us improve our production processes, minimize the amount of waste we generate, build a website with augmented reality, and optimize our creative processes with highly specialized training. The most valuable thing was that it opened doors to better markets for us, said Paula Tamayo Flores, founder of Fussion Peru.
The socio-environmental entrepreneur explained that before receiving financing from ProInnovate, they used homemade irons, and the support of these resources allowed them to install a production workshop, acquire thermal equipment to create plastic leather and generate very good quality products.
Exclusive, sustainable accessories with affordable prices
Fussion Peru turns these waste into an exclusive line of purses, wallets, diaries, pencil cases and utility products, combining style and functionality. The prices of their products start at 35 soles.
Each of these accessories seeks to raise awareness about the problem of ocean pollution by single-use plastics and in turn represents fewer plastic bags in the sea. Fussion Peru also guarantees that each piece produced contributes to job creation.
In this way, the brand applies good practices in its production processes by closing the cycle of committed production, uniting technical innovation with a commitment to social responsibility.
July 3: International Plastic Bag Free Day
The establishment of this date seeks to draw attention and raise awareness about the negative impact of the use and disposal of these devices on ecosystems.
In December 2018, Congress enacted Law No. 30884, which regulates single-use plastic and disposable packaging at the national level. According to data from the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM), around 950 thousand tons of plastics are consumed annually in Peru and 6 thousand plastic bags are used every minute in the country, that is, 3 billion plastic bags per day (2025).
It is known that 89% of the plastic waste found on the seabed is bags of this material.
