The Commission on Elections in Northern Mindanao (Comelec-10) has fully activated the Regional Joint Security and Control Center (RJSCC) in preparation for the 2025 midterm polls.
During a media briefing on Wednesday, Comelec-10 Director Renato Magbutay said the center is working with law enforcement agencies to review areas in the region that can pose security concerns during the campaign period and after the May 12 elections.
"A technical working group from the police and the army was tasked to come up with a unified listing and categorization of municipalities and cities in the region," Magbutay said.
He added that the group started its work on Jan. 6 and has been given two weeks to finalize the list.
Magbutay also confirmed that the nationwide election gun ban would take effect as scheduled on Jan. 12.
Meanwhile, the Bukidnon Provincial Police Office launched its Provincial Joint Security and Control Center on the same day to support the RJSCCβs operations.
In Iligan City, police under acting Director Col. Jerry Tambis announced plans to set up checkpoints at strategic locations beginning Jan. 12, coinciding with the implementation of the gun ban.
