With todays approval by the Federal Council of the Procurement Acceleration Act the way is clear for public procurement in Germany that will be simpler faster and more digital in the future - and friendly to medium-sized businesses.
The law will reduce the burden on the economy by almost 100 million euros and on public administration by 280 million euros annually. Obligations to provide proof are reduced procurement documents are streamlined and the value limits for unbureaucratic procurement through direct orders are increased. Public-public cooperation is also made easier which is important for example for cooperation between federal state and local authorities in the area of administrative digitization. In addition the opportunities for small and medium-sized companies and start-ups in competing for public contracts are improved.
The law will now be announced promptly and come into force on July 1 2026.
