π Tender Overview
February 18, 2026, Chisinau - The Government approved, by Government Decision, the draft law on the countrys accession to the Agreement on the measures under the jurisdiction of the port state to prevent, discourage and eliminate illegal, undeclared and unregulated fishing, concluded in Rome on November 22, 2009.
The agreement, adopted under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and entered into force internationally in 2016, establishes common control rules in ports to discourage the landing, transshipment or trading of products from illegal fishing.
Although the Republic of Moldova is not a coastal state and does not carry out fishing activities in the seas and oceans, joining the Agreement contributes to protecting the internal market of imported fishery products, originating from illegal, undeclared and unregulated fishing, and participating in global efforts to conserve aquatic resources.
On an economic level, accession provides a predictable framework for importers of fishery products, reduces the risk of trade sanctions and strengthens the confidence of external partners in the national food safety control system.
The application of the provisions of the agreement will be carried out through the existing mechanisms, with the National Food Safety Agency being the authority responsible for verifying the conformity of imported fishery products and exchanging information with international partners.
Through this decision, the Republic of Moldova aligns its national framework with international standards and the policies of the European Union in the field of fisheries, contributing to the protection of marine resources and strengthening international cooperation in combating illegal fishing.
