Rostelecom introduced a robotic technological complex at the Volgograd Foundry and Mechanical Plant (VLMZ), a branch of JSC ELTEZA (a subsidiary of JSC Russian Railways, also part of the National Proektstroy Group of Companies). The project was implemented on a turnkey basis and became one of the first examples in Russia of integrated robotization of welding operations for highly critical components of railway automation and telemechanics.
The technological complex, the key components of which are a six-axis industrial welding robot, technological equipment and a functional safety system, ensured stable welding quality, reduced the influence of the human factor and increased site productivity. This is one of the key factors in increasing production efficiency at VLMZ, which annually produces hundreds of thousands of units of serial products for organizing train traffic on Russian railways.
Rostelecom specialists designed and manufactured technological equipment for several types of products produced at the plant, debugged the welding processes themselves and carried out commissioning of the complex, and also organized a training program.
In the future, the robotic complex can be completely integrated into the digital circuit of the enterprise: integrated with the workshop infrastructure via the Ethernet/IP protocol with remote diagnostics, telemetry and mode monitoring in 24/7 format. Among the functions of the equipment is also the collection of parameters of each weld for the use of this data in predictive analytics systems, quality management and plant production process management.
Vladimir Volkov, vice president for work with large corporate clients of Rostelecom:
Roboticization of critical welding operations at the ELTEZA JSC enterprise is an example of how digital transformation comes directly to workshop sites that support national infrastructure projects. We combine competencies in industrial automation, production data processing, offering a complete solution with defined quality, transparent life cycle economics and an integrated digital loop.
