Rostelecom installed six 4G/LTE base stations in the Saratov region under the federal project Eliminating the Digital Divide (UCN 2.0). The work was carried out from April to July. 800 residents received access to high-speed mobile Internet and high-quality voice communications.
The 4G/LTE cellular network has appeared in small settlements[1]. The largest of the six villages, Vasilyevka, has only three streets, where about 250 people live. The companys employees carried out optical communications, built antenna mast structures, installed base stations, connected and configured equipment. The towers are located in places of best signal reception and transmission - you can use access to the network throughout the villages.
Ilya Gankin, technical director of the Saratov branch of Rostelecom
For those who prefer a relaxed rural lifestyle away from noisy cities, the Internet helps solve many issues and make life more comfortable. Thanks to the project to eliminate the digital divide, even in a small village you can feel connected to the whole world: call relatives without interference, use online services for work, study and communication.
Andrey Dobudko, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Communications of the Saratov Region:
It is important for us that digital opportunities are available to the maximum number of residents of the region, regardless of whether they live in a large city or in a small village. The UCN 2.0 project is not just the installation of base stations, it is the creation of equal conditions for living, working and learning.
Rostelecom has been implementing the UCN 2.0 program since April 2021 under an agreement with the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation. During this time, more than 57,500 residents of 248 small settlements in the Saratov region received access to mobile communications. To connect base stations to the communications network, Rostelecom built about 1,200 kilometers of optics in the region.
