Microsoft has warned Russian companies about restricting access to some cloud subscriptions from September 2, IT company Softline reported on its Telegram channel with a link to the letter it received.
"On August 20, 2024, we, as a partner, received a notification from Microsoft Corporation about the restriction of access to some cloud subscriptions from September 2, 2024. The restrictions apply to all legal entities registered in the Russian Federation. The exception will be multinational companies (MNCs) owned or controlled by legal entities outside the Russian Federation. The restrictions will affect all licensing channels (Enterprise and CSP)," the message says.
Softline also stated that it would send a written request to Microsoft to obtain clarification on a number of issues, in particular, the exact list of products subject to restrictions; the availability periods for data stored in the cloud; what documents and communication channels to use to confirm affiliation with an MNC. The company also recommends saving data from the Microsoft cloud.
In March, Microsoft announced in a letter to customers that it would close access to management and design programs for Russian companies, including cloud solutions. Amazon sent a similar letter. The restrictions were introduced as part of the 12th package of sanctions of the European Union, which restricts the supply of business analytics software and other products to Russia.
In May, Softline Vice President Andrey Blagorazumov told RIA Novosti that Microsoft had begun to stop corporate customers' subscriptions in the Russian Federation to cloud products Power BI, Visio, and Project.
In March 2022, Microsoft Corporation announced that it was leaving the Russian market, in particular, suspending sales of goods and provision of services in Russia. Later, the company emphasized that it would continue to fulfill existing obligations to customers in Russia.
