Rostelecom and the Lenta retail chain have completed joint testing of the Aurora Center platform for managing the retailer's corporate mobile devices. The results of the testing confirmed that the platform fully complies with the corporate mobility requirements of one of the largest Russian retailers and the retail industry as a whole. Aurora Center allows centralized management of a fleet of devices, distribution of corporate applications, delivery of files and execution of scripts, as well as restricting user access to device settings and applications not related to work tasks.
Lenta's corporate fleet of devices includes about 10 thousand different gadgets for working in the retail system: data collection terminals from various manufacturers, price checkers, as well as smartphones and tablets. The equipment is used in key business processes - scanning, acceptance and inventory of goods at warehouses distributed throughout the country. Suspension of these processes due to incorrectly operating devices and software carries the risk of financial and reputational losses for the company. At the same time, managing devices is complicated by the fact that they operate on different versions of the Android OS. After a number of players left the Russian market, the retailer needed a domestic alternative.
Rostelecom's B2E technology laboratory, in collaboration with IT specialists from the Super Lenta retail chain (a supermarket format within the Lenta company structure), adapted the Aurora Center platform to manage Android OS devices. The Kiosk mode is worth mentioning separately, the functionality of which allows restricting user access to device settings and applications not related to the performance of job responsibilities, and makes available only the resources necessary for work. All devices can be configured in a single corporate style, including the order of the applications.
It is expected that, based on the results of pilot industrial operation, the use of Aurora Center will provide Lenta with control over the entire fleet of devices and corporate data, reduce costs and time for putting gadgets into operation, and also guarantee a high level of management security with minimal involvement of administrators.
The project was implemented within the framework of a memorandum of cooperation that Rostelecom and Lenta signed in 2022. The companies' partnership includes, among other things, the organization and joint creation, piloting, testing and implementation of ICT and innovative solutions in the retail industry.
