The GCC General Secretariat represented by the Transportation Department of the Economic Affairs Sector held a workshop on The implications of the Corona pandemic on the GCC road transport sector on Tuesday 14 July 2020 with the participation of a number of specialists in the road transport sector customs and port security.The worlsop discussed the important role of the GCC road transport sector in ensuring the continuity of supply chains for basic commodities during the pandemic and the size and type of economic support provided by the GCC governments to workers operators bus owners and taxis to mitigate the losses suffered during the pandemic.Eng. Mueed Al Saeed Assisting Vice President of Land Transport Regulation of the Public Transport Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia gave a presentation on the precautionary measures and preventive protocols to face the consequences of the pandemic on the road transport sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and future plans in this area.The workshop came with a number of important recommendations the most important of which is activating remote work and creating plans for managing risks and crises.Appreciating the great role played by health and security heroes and workers in the field of road transport including those working in land ports. As well as the need to integrate small companies operating in the transport for passengers and goods in large entities that enables them to withstand the crises. In addition to the importance of the GCC states sharing experiences and lessons learned during the pandemic.This workshop comes as part of a number of workshops panel discussions and seminars organized by various departments in the GCC General Secretariat under the guidance of HE the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council to discuss and exchange views on the effects of the pandemic on various economic social health and other GCC sectors and the measures taken to mitigate those effects.
