Sierra Leone Increasing Tender

πŸ“„ Tender ID: 503793269 πŸ“… Published: 13 May 2024

πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

UNOPS is working with the government of Japan, the Ministry of Health, and the Guma Valley Water Company to increase access to safe drinking water for 250,000 people.

Freetown’s water supply system has been hugely impacted by the decreasing availability of water for an increasing number of people who need it – and an intermittent water supply system often results in water rationing for customers. Leakages due to aged pipes, an insufficient mains network, and water theft have resulted in less water for underserved and unserved communities.

Funded by the government of Japan, UNOPS is working with Guma Valley Water Company on a one-year project to help optimize water system operations, validate and update the existing network, and procure the equipment needed to repair and replace damaged pipes.

β€œWater is life and an essential resource for advancing sustainable development in Sierra Leone,” said Sofia Goinhas, UNOPS Country Manager in Sierra Leone. β€œThis vital initiative will help improve the people of Freetown’s access to clean drinking water.”

Working with local and international partners, UNOPS will draw on the expertise in delivering essential public infrastructure to support Guma Valley Water Company, which is responsible for supplying potable water in Greater Freetown.
