π Tender Overview
The interim solution governing Switzerlands cooperation with the European Railway Agency will be extended until the end of 2025. It enables administrative simplifications in cross-border rail traffic.
Switzerland and the EU have a great interest in ensuring that cross-border rail traffic functions as smoothly and without obstacles as possible. Joint vehicle approvals and safety certificates reduce the administrative burden on companies. The Switzerland-EU Joint Land Transport Committee has agreed to extend cooperation in the European Railway Agency (ERA) for a further year, until December 31, 2025. The parties signed the corresponding resolution on December 13, 2024, which the Federal Council approved at its meeting on December 6, 2024.
Since 2019, the ERA has been responsible for the joint approval of railway wagons and locomotives in cross-border traffic in the EU. Thanks to Switzerlands cooperation with the ERA, which was also introduced in 2019, the administrative burden for Swiss companies is also reduced. Along with the extension of the transitional solution, Annex 1 of the Switzerland-EU land transport agreement was updated with 16 new legal acts. This recognizes that Switzerland has equivalent regulations to the EU.
