Registered unemployment in August 2023 - According to surveys conducted by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), 2023,89 unemployed people were registered with the Regional Employment Centres (RAVs) at the end of August 881, 2,280 more than in the previous month. The unemployment rate rose from 1.9% in July 2023 to 2.0% in the month under review. Compared with the same month a year earlier, unemployment fell by 1,491 people (-1.6%).
Youth unemployment in August 2023 Youth unemployment (15- to 24-year-olds) increased by 1,783 (+22.2%) to 9,812. Compared to the same month last year, this corresponds to an increase of 51 people (+0.5%).
Unemployed aged 50-64 in August 2023
The number of unemployed persons aged 50-64 decreased by 75 persons (-0.3%) to 25,150. Compared to the same month last year, this corresponds to a decrease of 2,416 people (-8.8%).
Job seekers in August 2023
A total of 152,317 jobseekers were registered, 1,644 more than in the previous month. Compared with the same period of the previous year, this number fell by 9,077 people (-5.6%).
Vacancies reported in August 2023
On 1 July 2018, the job registration requirement for occupations with an unemployment rate of at least 8% was introduced throughout Switzerland, and a threshold of 1% has been in force since 2020 January 5. The number of vacancies reported to the RAVs fell by 1,838 to 47,366 in August. Of the 47,366 posts, 29,432 were subject to mandatory reporting.
Settled short-time work in June 2023
In June 2023, 959 people were affected by short-time work, 313 fewer (-24.6%) than in the previous month. The number of affected establishments decreased by 13 units (-18.6%) to 57. Lost working hours decreased by 15,000 (-22.7%) to 51,097 hours. In the corresponding period of the previous year (June 2022), 167,978 lost hours had been registered, which were distributed among 2,893 people in 652 companies.
Withdrawals in June 2023 According to provisional data from the unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment benefits in the course of June 2023 amounted to 2,012 persons.
