๐ Tender Overview
Senator Teresa Leitao (PT-PE), speaking in the Plenary this Tuesday (7), highlighted World Health Day and defended the strengthening of the Unified Health System (SUS). The parliamentarian highlighted that the SUS serves more than 200 million Brazilians and classified the public network as essential to guarantee the right to health in the country.
-- Public health is not an abstraction. It is above all through the Unified Health System, the SUS, our great heritage, that the concrete lives of the Brazilian people are protected, and in this Plenary we have the duty to recognize advances and reaffirm civilizing commitments. It is in this network that more than 200 million people have the constitutional right to access the SUS, which makes the Brazilian health system the largest universal public health system in the world -- he stated.
Teresa highlighted federal government actions in the area which, according to her, have improved the quality of care for the population. The senator cited the expansion of vaccination coverage, the expansion of family health teams, the strengthening of basic care and the expansion of the Popular Pharmacy Program. He also mentioned the resumption of structuring programs and the recomposition of the health budget.
-- Over the last three years, the Brazilian government, through the Ministry of Health, has undertaken a consistent effort to rebuild and strengthen the SUS. After a period marked by institutional and federative disorganization, scientific denialism and the weakening of public policies, the country returned to taking care of the lives of the Brazilian people, with primary care, mass vaccination, the search for reducing waiting times, financing the SUS and the resumption of structuring programs -- he said.
