π Tender Overview
The Executive Branch issued a decree that relaxes the requirements for 85000 rural workers throughout the country to access unemployment insurance. As explained by the Minister of Labor Pablo Mieres this December 21 the objective is to eliminate the existing inequality between rural and urban workers. The category of sugarcane growers was also considered.Minister Mieres and the national director of Social Security Daniel Garca Zeballos reported on a decree approved by the Government and a ministerial resolution that covers sugarcane producers. This new regime allows access to unemployment insurance for rural workers who until now were governed by rules different from those of urban workers. This implies differences when considering the amount of wages.Mieres said that according to the studies carried out seasonal workers will increase their income to the subsidy by 10 taking into account that they are the most unprotected. Regarding the resolution regarding the sugarcane growers the hierarch said that it was signed for a period of one year. He explained that for the 900 workers in this sector the requirements for entering the benefit are further reduced because in the harvest there are peculiarities that make it more difficult to reach the required wages. For his part Garca Zeballos argued that the previous regulation was from 2001 and that it was necessary to modify it since the reality of rural workers has changed without achieving the objectives sought. He recalled that 56 of rural workers are day laborers and that with these new measures they are incorporated into the subsidy.
