At the Workshop, with the participation of more than 200 managers, experts and scientists, the discussion focused on 4 main issues: The context and factors affecting the development of physical education and sports in Vietnam, opportunities and challenges in the coming period; The current status of high-performance sports development in our country; Identifying key sports, the basis for selecting key sports, criteria for selecting key sports, the draft Program is planning 17 key sports for investment in the coming time; Solutions for investing and developing key sports to win gold medals at ASIAD and medals at the Olympics.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Nguyen Hong Minh said that the Politburo has issued Conclusion No. 70-KL/TW on sports development in the new period, which has identified 4 key groups of tasks that the sports industry needs to focus on implementing; The Prime Minister has just issued the Sports Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045. The Strategy has clearly identified 5 viewpoints, 6 specific goals, 9 groups of tasks, and important solutions that the sports industry needs to concretize to implement.
Vietnamese sports have made significant progress at the SEA Games and regional tournaments, but their achievements at the ASIAD and the Olympics are still limited, showing signs of falling behind strong sports. The main reason is the lack of a national program focused on training key athletes for these arenas, while many Asian countries have had a well-planned investment strategy.
At the workshop, Dr. Le Thanh Tung - Director of Vietnam Sports Hospital said that in the context of Vietnamese sports developing in a professional, modern and scientific direction, building a synchronous, effective and sustainable sports medicine system is not only an urgent professional requirement, but also an important "component" in the National Sports Development Strategy in the new period.
Regarding implementation solutions, the Vietnam Sports Administration will group key sports; invest in infrastructure and resources: mobilize central and local budgets and social resources to modernize the training system, build specialized training centers (highland sports, marine sports, martial arts, shooting - archery), develop the Olympic Athlete Training Center at the My Dinh Sports Complex.
There are policies to support athletes and coaches: improve salary and bonus regimes for athletes with high achievements, improve employment policies after athletes retire, tax exemptions, and financial support for businesses investing in sports.
Application of science and technology in sports: using artificial intelligence (AI), big data to select and train athletes, establishing high-tech training rooms at national sports training centers.
Strengthen communication, promote the image of excellent athletes, build a sports database system, gradually perfect the national competition system and professional solutions, specific plans to develop 17 key sports, including Shooting, Swimming, Athletics, Weightlifting, Karate, Wushu...
