π Tender Overview
Scope :
The AMAN project is an ultra-large-scale green hydrogen project located in Mauritania. The project seeks to combine the tremendous solar and wind resources with green hydrogen production. Exciting opportunities also exist in green iron production, which could be enabled by tapping into the huge reserves of iron ore available locally.
Location : Northern Mauritania on a 8500 km2 site
Project Scale : Up to 30GW of mixed generation
Key Features :
Renewable Energy Sources
15 GW wind and 15 GW of solar
Green Hydrogen Production
Targets large-scale production of green hydrogen, aiming for an initial production capacity of 500,000 tonnes per year.
Green Ammonia
Plans to produce green ammonia as a derivative, which can be used in various industrial applications.
Community Impact :
An independent macroeconomic study by Systemiq found that AMAN is expected to have a significant impact on Mauritaniaβs GDP and local economic development. The project will not only generate annual export revenue, it will provide jobs for local communities, including capability building and education in fields of technology, engineering, project management and the like. Clean water and agricultural development, as well as clean mobility, water and affordably electricity are all potential byproducts of a successful power-to-X project of AMANβs scale.
Unique Opportunities : Opportunity to combine production of low-cost renewable energy and hydrogen with DRI processes to enable green steel production in the area. The availability of iron ore at scale near to the project site makes this opportunity very attractive.
