Project Summary
In 2024, APEC leaders emphasized the urgent need for clean energy transitions to achieve net-zero global greenhouse gas emissions. Continuous efforts to reduce energy consumption are vital for clean energy transitions, with improving energy efficiency being essential for both reducing consumption and maintaining quality of life. District Cooling and Heating Systems (DCHS) were proven to be an energy- efficient practice. This project, proposed by Hong Kong, China (HKC), aims to conduct a comprehensive training program on DCHS (with sharing and exercises) for APEC member economies, aligning with the mandates of the Energy Working Group (EWG) and the Expert Group on Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EGEEC). The project will enhance manpower capabilities and energy efficiency in infrastructure services.
Participants will gain expertise in site identification for planning of land use and infrastructure, system design, operation, policies and incentives, and innovative technologies adoption, etc. By fostering direct dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders, the project seeks to empower APEC member economies to embrace DCHS as a sustainable solution, ultimately driving progress toward a sustainable energy future, contributing to the overall growth of the region, and achieving the APEC energy goals.
