Scope Construction of a 22.5km railway extension from the Brenner Base Tunnel between Fortezza and Ponte Gardena in Italy. Upon completion the 64km-long Brenner Base Tunnel is expected to be the longest railway tunnel in the world. It will connect Verona Italy and Munich Germany through Innsbruck Austria. The project aims to quadruple the capacity on the line between Verona and Fortezza which is located at the southern end of the Brenner along the Munich-Verona railway corridor. This will reduce travel times for trains carrying both goods and people.Additionally Webuild will adopt standards exceeding the speed and performance limits of the current railway line which now restricts trains to travel at low speeds particularly on inclines.Work on the project also includes underground interconnections as well as other works at Ponte Gardena. The railway extension project is expected to create 15000 direct and indirect jobs and across the complete supply chain and the local economy.Webuild stated that it is currently working on three major construction sites for the Brenner tunnel. This includes underground crossing works of the Isarco River adjacent to the Brenners southern exit underground civil works at Tulfes-Pfons and Mules 2-3 which is the core section at the tunnels Italian end.The company is also working on the Naples-Cancello and Apice-Hirpinia segments of the high-speedhigh-capacity between Naples and Bari for the Scandinavia-Mediterranean Corridor. It is involved in Bicocca-Catenanuova part of the Palermo-Catania rail line.
