๐Ÿ“‹ Tender Overview

Peanuts, sesame and shea butter have potential for diversifying sustainable agricultural production and creating jobs for family farms (especially for women and young people). By supporting the development of these sectors through the market systems development approach, Switzerland will contribute to wealth creation, reducing the vulnerability of rural households and gender inequalities.

The project in brief
Background In Chad, approximately 5.1 million people are food insecure (UN, 2021) and its rural population is particularly affected by extreme poverty. Increasingly difficult climatic conditions and the steady decline in agricultural productivity are negatively affecting food security in Chad. Faced with this situation, cash crops such as peanuts, sesame and shea, which are better adapted to climate change and low fertility soils, constitute an alternative for diversifying and increasing the income of family farms (FF). However, rural and peri-urban households struggle to develop and obtain sufficient income due to numerous constraints: weak development of market systems, lack of access to suitable financial products, opacity of markets, etc. The SDC intervention will target systemic changes by improving business dialogue between stakeholders, their access to the services market for the development of small agricultural businesses in rural and peri-urban households, particularly those run by women and young people, and better rational management of natural resources.
Objectives The project aims to develop inclusive market systems that enable poor and vulnerable populations to have better access to quality services and business opportunities.
Target groups The project targets family farms (EF) that carry out activities in the three sectors (peanut, sesame and shea) in the provinces of Logone Oriental, Mandoul and Moyen Chari. It aims to improve the income of 120,000 people, including at least 60% women, or 72,000 women and 100 Economic Operators. The project will have an induced effect beyond the three priority provinces, thanks to the strengthening of the capacities of support services and all actors in the three sectors.
Medium-term outcomes - Family farms have access to support services (seeds, training, storage and sales, market information system) that enable them to improve their productivity, quality, margins and sales. - EFs, their organizations (cooperatives and platforms) and economic operators (EOs) have access to credit, savings and financial education and thus increase their investment capacity. - EFs, particularly women and young people, benefit from an environment favorable to the development of their activities.
Results Expected results: With the support of the project: โ€ข Provider
