π Tender Overview
Scope : Setting up Coal gasification project in Piparwar, Jharkhand
In line with the governmentβs push towards coal gasification, state-run Coal India Limited (CIL) is considering setting up coal gasification project by 2026.
The feasibility of this project is being studied and a report on the same is expected to be ready by November 2020. The project will require coal input and will convert the fossil fuel into syngas β a mixture consisting primarily of carbon monoxide, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, natural gas, and water vapour.
The project is expected to come up in Jharkhandβs Piparwar (Central Coalfields Limited). The CCL project will need 2.5 MTPA of the fossil fuel. The tentative timeline for the completion of this project is 2022-2026.
The new project involves using mined coal to produce syngas which comprises carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the first phase. In the second phase, the syngas is processed to get desired products for sector-specific industries. Such plant would require anywhere between 100 and 200 acres of land and a permanent water source.
