Dabaa Nuclear Power Tender

Scope The al-Dabaa plant will be built by Russias state nuclear contractor Rosatom and will be located about 130km northwest of Cairo. The project which will have four 1.2GW reactors is expected to cost 30bn. Russia has agreed to finance 25bn with a state loan repayable over 13 years at an interest rate of 3 beginning in 2029 the year the plant is expected to be complete. The Egyptians will find the remaining 5bn. The reactors will use Rosatoms third generation VVER-1200 design. This model was first installed in the Novovoronezh plant last year.Egypt and Rosatom have signed two contracts covering the construction of the plant and the supply of nuclear fuel two more covering technical training and the reprocessing of spent fuel will be signed before the ground breaking. Rosatom will be responsible for providing nuclear fuel spent fuel and operations and maintenance OM related goods and services for the 4800MW plant as well as undertaking construction work. El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant is the first nuclear power plant planned for Egypt and will be located at El Dabaa Matrouh Governorate Egypt which is about 130 Kilometers northwest of Cairo. The plant will have four VVER-1200 reactors making Egypt the only country in the region to have a Generation III reactor. The project will cost US30 billion of which Russia will finance 85 as a state loan of US25 billion and Egypt will provide the remaining 15 in the form of installments. The Russian loan has a repayment period of 13 years with an annual interest rate of 3. Its estimated that an additional 1.5GW of new capacity will be needed each year thats a 6 increase year over year until 2022.Previous Events December 2017Rosatom and Egypts Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy have signed notices to proceed for contracts concerning development of the new 30bn El Dabaa nuclear power plant. February 2018Ministry of Electricity has submitted the list of companies bidding to take part in Al-Dabaa nuclear power plant to Russias Rosatom. In December Egypts President AbdelFattah El-Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin signed an agreement to execute the Dabaa nuclear power plant. Among the companies bidding for the project are Alsewedy Electric Orascom Construction The Arab Contractors Hassan Allam Holding and Petrojet.October 2018GE Power has announced that it has won the contract to deliver the turbine island equipment for El Dabaa nuclear power plant project in Egypt through AAEM its joint venture with Atomenergomash.October 2018 AAEM has won a contract to supply turbine hall equipment for Units 1 to 4 of the El Dabaa nuclear power station. The contract was awarded by DEZ JSC acting on behalf of Atomstroyexport JSC a general contractor for the El Dabaa project.
