PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Background:
Pakistan's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to climate action, as of October 2021, stipulate a 15 percent reduction in the country's greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2015. The energy sector aims to contribute by increasing the share of energy from renewable sources. Currently, this share stands at 30 percent (25 percent from hydropower, 5.4 percent from wind and solar energy or biomass). The goal is to increase this share to 60 percent by 2030. This presents numerous technical challenges for electricity grid operators. In particular, expertise is needed to develop methods for forecasting the amount of electricity generated from renewable sources in different regions. This ensures grid access for renewable energy without compromising grid stability or causing major power outages.
Goal:
Key players in the energy industry have implemented legal and digital solutions to facilitate the energy transition.
Approach:
The project supports the energy transition with the following measures:
1. Supporting institutions in the Pakistani energy industry in implementing legal regulations and strategies for expanding renewable energy.
2. Conducting a training and further education program for network operators and other institutions in the energy industry. The project aims to impart the necessary expertise and digital skills to develop a comprehensive concept for integrating electricity from renewable sources into the grid.
3. Implementing technical measures in selected areas of two distribution networks to prevent electricity losses.
4. Supporting the operators of the distribution systems in achieving th
