The main objective of the Project Works on E30 railway line, Rzeszów - Medyka (state border) section - design documentation is the preparation of the design documentation with all required administrative decision for over 100 km of railway lines on the Rzeszów – Medyka (PL/UA border) section, in order to execute construction works, to meet TEN-T requirements, and hence to remove the bottlenecks and improve the capacity of this section.
The Project is a part of Global Project which aims at modernisation of the E30 railway on the Medyka (state border) – Rzeszów – Kraków – Katowice section. The Project covered by this proposal is preceded by the project Works on E30 railway line, Rzeszów-Medyka (state border) section - pre-project documentation (CEF 2020-PL-TM-0074-S). Outcomes of the pre-project documentation (.e. Feasibility Study) will constitute the crucial contribution to the project Works on E30 railway line, Rzeszów - Medyka (state border) section - design documentation .
The Rzeszów – Medyka (PL/UA state border) railway section is located on the core network corridor North Sea – Baltic (section UA Border-Kraków-Katowice-Wroclaw- Falkenberg – Magdeburg) and on the line E30.
The Rzeszów – Medyka section is the most important rail connection between Ukraine and other European countries, therefore in the light of Russian aggression against Ukraine, the implementation of the Project is crucial for the military and economy cooperation between Ukraine, Poland and other EU countries.
Because of its localization, the Project fits into The action plan for EU – Ukraine Solidarity Lanes to facilitate Ukraine's agriculture and bilateral trade with the EU (Brussels 12.5.2022 COM (2022) 217 final).
The Project concerns the studies on main line No. 91. However, for functional and operational reasons the studies also cover feeder lines, namely line No. 92 and short sections (min 0,3 km - max 6,4 km) from lines 68, 101, 102, 119, 120, 121, 123, 124, 125, 612, 613, 614, 615, 861, 988 and 989.
The final operational speed will be 160km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for a freight ones.
The design documentation prepared under the Project will allow to announce the tender for construction works and next, to execute construction works on the Rzeszów – Medyka section.
The Project will result in the following deliverables:
• Environmental impact assessment report;
• Environmental decision;
• Design documentation;
• Tender dossier for construction works;
• Building permits.
