Scope of WorkConstruction of 2000-kilometre East Mediterranean EastMed pipeline. DescriptionThe winning bidders will engineer procure construct install and pre-commission both EastMeds onshore pipeline in Greece plus its above ground AG facilities in Cyprus Crete and mainland Greece. Pre-qualification documents must be submitted this month so that the project proponents the IGI-Poseidon joint venture of Italys Edison and Depa of Greece can issue bid documents and ultimately take a final investment decision this year targeting pipeline start-up in 2027.The tastiest of the two contracts worth 1 billion 1.02 billion covers 555 kilometres of 48-inch onshore pipelines in mainland Greece traversing the South Peloponnese Achaia and Thesprotia areas. A pipeline of about 10 kilometres which will tie the EastMed line into Greeces national gas grid is included in this workscope. Three players are likely to bid for this work with sources suggesting the prime contenders will include Italian players Bonatti and Sicim plus Spiecapag of France.However not to be sniffed at is the AG facilities contract which is valued at 250 million and cover compressor pressure reduction and metering stations as well as an operations maintenance and dispatching OMD centre. These facilities will need to be hydrogen-compatible in order to meet the requirements of the EU which lists EastMed as a project of common interest and therefore able to attract EU funding. This contracts workscope will take place in Cyprus Crete and the Peloponnese part of mainland Greece. Metering and pressure reduction stations are needed in both Cyprus and at Megalopolis in the central Peloponnese while a compressor and metering station will be built in Crete and the OMD constructed in mainland Greece.IGI expects five companies to compete for this contract which has a three-year duration by a source familiar with this market that the most likely contenders will include Italian players Saipem Bonatti Terna and Renco plus Germanys Max Streicher. Saipem and Allseas meanwhile are nearing the end of a front-end engineering and design contest covering EastMeds offshore pipelines with the prize being a 2.7 billion pipelay contract.
