PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
In the Brazilian Amazon region, around three million people are not connected to the national electricity grid and depend entirely on fossil fuels for their electricity supply. The region is extremely sensitive to the effects of climate change, and there are global calls for emissions reductions. Therefore, a further increase in the share of renewable energies is necessary to create a cleaner and more resilient electricity grid.
Another challenge in the energy sector is diversity and inclusion, as only 20 percent of the workforce is women. Increasing the share of renewable energies is expected to create 46,000 to 260,000 new jobs by 2030. It therefore offers a major opportunity to strengthen women's participation and gender equality in this sector.
The Brazilian government is implementing a national strategy for a just and ecologically balanced energy transition.
The project supports the country in developing policy objectives, programs, and regulations that promote a socially just energy transition. The measures aim to
promote gender equality;
To provide training courses for professionals, managers, and technicians (including women and members of vulnerable groups) to implement a technical master plan for the integration of variable renewable energy into the grid;
to develop concepts, models, and tools for the decarbonization of isolated energy systems in the Amazon region. The project also advises the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) on the creation of a national program for the nationwide promotion of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and a just en
