While the waters around Indonesia are rich in fishery resources and constitute an extremely important sea lane in terms of international logisticsβwith approximately 90% of the crude oil imported into Japan passing through themβthey are also the site of illegal fishing, the smuggling of people and goods, terrorism, piracy, and human trafficking, and are prone to natural disasters. Patrols in the waters have therefore become increasingly important.
