PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Background:
In Zambia, large segments of the population suffer from malnutrition due to various factors: high poverty rates, insufficient access to health services, contaminated drinking water, and the effects of climate change, such as droughts and floods, are just a few examples. These challenges lead to a scarcity of nutritious and affordable food. Furthermore, the population often lacks the necessary knowledge about healthy nutrition and hygiene.
If children do not receive sufficient micronutrients in their first two years of life, this can have lifelong and irreversible effects on their health and development. Both physical and mental growth can be impaired. In Zambia, 32 percent of children suffer from this form of chronic malnutrition, with serious consequences for their own lives and the country's economy.

Objective:
The nutritional status and resilience of poor households in rural areas, particularly women and young children, were improved in selected districts of the Eastern Province and Luapula Province.

Approach:
The project supports 75,000 women of reproductive age, 20,000 children under two years old, and 37,500 men from the same household. It has the following objectives:
β€’ To expand knowledge about nutrition and access to clean drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene – thereby promoting practices that ensure both a balanced diet and adequate hygiene and sanitation standards. Through savings groups, the project improves the econo
