Fufu is a 261MW hydro power project. It is planned on South Rukuru river/basin in Northern Region, Malawi. The project is currently in announced stage. It will be developed in single phase. The project construction is likely to commence in 2024 and is expected to enter into commercial operation in 2029.
The project is being developed and currently owned by Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi.
Fufu is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is planned to be 138 million cubic meter. The gross head of the project will be 400m. The project is expected to generate 420 GWh of electricity. The project cost is expected to be around $702m.
The hydro power project consists of 4 turbines, each with 50MW nameplate capacity.
Development Status
The project construction is expected to commence from 2024. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2029.
