π Tender Overview
Scope :
Gensol and Matrix Gas to build Indiaβs first hydrogen-powered steel facility. This initiative will create Indiaβs largest Green Steel facility, advancing sustainable steel production using 100% Green Hydrogen.
This initiative, utilising 100 per cent Green Hydrogen, will be the largest Green Steel facility in the country and a major step towards sustainable steel production. It is one of three pilot projects sanctioned under the National Green Hydrogen Mission by MECON, in collaboration with the Ministry of Steel (MoS) and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
With a total capital expenditure of Rs 321 crore, the project is supported by a 50 per cent capex incentive from the Government of India, highlighting the countryβs commitment to reducing carbon emissions in the steel industry. The facility will employ direct reduced iron (DRI) technology, replacing traditional fossil fuels with green hydrogen, significantly cutting CO2 emissions.
Consortium partners, including the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar and Swedenβs Metsol AB, will collaborate on the 50-tonne-per-day pilot plant. Matrix will oversee the project lifecycle, from land acquisition to installation and commissioning.
