π Tender Overview
Scope :
Upgradation of of the 183km Hargeisa-Odweyne-Burao road in Somalia. The project is being supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The Hargeisa-Odweyne-Burao road links the towns of Hargeisa and Burao in Somaliland located within the Berbera corridor, which links Somalia with Ethiopia, and the Djibouti-Mogadishu corridor.
The road has been described as a vital missing link in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) regional economic transport corridors and it has been prioritised in the IGAD Regional Infrastructure Masterplan 2020-50.
The current driving distance between the two towns via Berbera city is around 296km and entails an estimated five-hour drive. Once the road is upgraded to bitumen standard, the driving distance will be shorted to 183km and the drive to less than two hours.
The project is being implemented and managed by the Ministry of Transport & Road Development (MOTRD) through the Roads Development Agency (RDA).
The overall project is expected to be completed by December 2027.
