The project in brief
Background For over twenty years, Switzerland has placed local authorities (LAs) at the heart of its support in Mali, convinced that decentralization is essential for effective and sustainable local governance. In a context of multidimensional crisis, marked by the withdrawal of MINUSMA and the challenge to the Peace Agreement, local authorities are on the front line responding to the needs of more than 378,000 displaced persons. Despite limited resources, they work alongside local stakeholders to preserve community life and protect the most vulnerable. Swiss cooperation focuses on proximity, dialogue, and accountability to strengthen their role. Growing community engagement, particularly through civil-military dialogue and the reintegration of 3,000 ex-combatants, opens up concrete prospects for peace.
